FMC® SURFACE

For a long-lasting biological seal

Using advanced fluorescence microscopy techniques and biochemical analyses, it has been possible to observe how gingival fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and mesenchymal cells of dental origin interact selectively with different implant surfaces. The results demonstrate that micro-grooved surfaces with a 50 μm pitch—such as the FMC® (Fibroblast Micro Channel) surface found on the necks of IL® and IL WIDE® implants—promote superior cell adhesion and activation. This enhances collagen deposition—a key factor for soft-tissue stability—and contributes to the formation of a stable biological seal, thereby accelerating the healing process and ensuring safer, more durable, and aesthetically natural results for patients.

Optical microscopy analysis demonstrated a highly positive effect on the converging micro-grooved surface, revealing greater density and improved intertwining of collagen bundles. Research currently awaiting publication has also highlighted the ability to stimulate the transition from fibroblasts to myofibroblasts, likely enhancing the stability of the connective tissue seal.

The study was conducted under the scientific coordination of Professor Anna Di Vito, in compliance with the highest methodological standards.
